Here at Iris Farms, we love to read. In fact, most of what we do incorporates literature of some sort - a picture book about what bunnies do all day, an excerpt from Trumpet of the Swan - just because we can't help it. Books open the door to the wonders of the world.
Our hands-on programs bring that wonder to life. Holding baby goats, feeding the tortoise her veggies, observing a mama hen with her chicks - touching, seeing, smelling, delighting in all that nature has to teach us. So, welcome to the barnyard...and we hope you don't mind if you get a little dirt on your overalls.
Our programs are held here in our barnyard in Riverside, CA. We have great respect for our animals, and for the nature surrounding us. Much of our learning is done through observation and interaction with the animals, so students are taught to move slowly, touch gently, and speak quietly while in the barnyard.
But, don't worry, we also throw in the occasional egg toss and sack race to keep things lively around here.
Whether you have an animal lover in pre-school or high school, we have something for you. Our child-care programs include basic animal education and care, as well as nature-inspired creative writing prompted by observation and curiosity. We believe there is no wrong age to learn something new, and there is no better teacher than hands-on experience.
(Lucky for you, parents are always on-site - so you just may learn a thing or two yourself!)
